My name is Andrew Cutler, and I am an actor, acting teacher, producer, co-founder of First Floor Theater, and co-owner of Black Box Acting in Chicago. I am the Artistic Producer at First Floor, the Executive Director and a teacher at Black Box, and have been a lecturer for the Committee on Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Chicago. As an actor, I have appeared onstage in many productions, including Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Polaroid Stories, The Paranoid Style in American Politics, World Builders, Refrigerator, Hooded; or Being Black for Dummies, Killed a Man (Joking), Plano, Always Nothing Else and Botticelli in the Fire with First Floor Theater, and in productions at A Red Orchid Theatre, The Artistic Home, and The Sound, among others. Outside Chicago, my credits include A Christmas Carol, We’re Gonna Be Okay and The Many Deaths of Nathan Stubblefield at Actors Theatre of Louisville. In early 2019, I was named one of the Fifty People Who Really Perform for Chicago in Newcity Stage for my work with First Floor. First Floor's productions have also received many Joseph Jefferson Award nominations, eight of them in my first season as Artistic Producer. I hold a degree in Theater and Performance Studies from The University of Chicago, completed my conservatory training in The ACADEMY at Black Box Acting. Outside of my work in the arts, I am a volunteer and an organizer with the Northwest Side Solidarity Network.
